Zurich is seeking an experienced Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (Senior or AVP). We are looking for talented professionals, and therefore there is flexibility with location in the East region – including New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, or any city within the East region with a Zurich office.

This position will be based out of a Zurich office location, with the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. The role requires visibility in the marketplace to meet with agents and brokers, with an expectation of being in the office or market three days per week.

As a Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (Senior or AVP), you will have the opportunity to grow and develop your career as part of a seasoned and dynamic team. Your responsibilities include underwriting new and renewal business, utilizing Zurich’s Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels on highly complex accounts. We emphasize strong customer relationships and seek someone with the ability to develop exceptional relationships and maintain a strong market-facing presence. Experience with construction wrap excess casualty is preferred.

This role is open at either the Senior Underwriter or AVP level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based on the applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed.

Our Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter is responsible for:

1. Proactively seeking renewal and new account opportunities.
2. Demonstrating specialized knowledge in underwriting National Account business.
3. Completing detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
4. Contributing to proposal development and providing technical guidance and training to lower-level underwriters.
5. Qualifying accounts that meet the organization’s appetite and are sound business opportunities.
6. Making agent, broker, customer, and on-site calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.
7. Negotiating terms & conditions and closing deals.
8. Cross-selling other lines of business to increase product density.
9. Participating in Sales Team meetings related to assigned brokers and territories.
10. Engaging proactively in the target account process, managing a qualified list of opportunities 90 to 120 days prior to effective date.
11. Developing strong broker and client networks within industries underwritten by the Business Unit.

Qualifications for Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (Senior):

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 5+ years in underwriting or a market-facing role.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 10+ years in claims or underwriting support.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree with 3+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles.
• Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree with 8+ years in claims or underwriting support.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working under time constraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
• Experience working in a team environment.

Qualifications for Construction Excess Casualty Wrap Underwriter (AVP):

• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 7+ years in underwriting or a market-facing role.
• High School Diploma or Equivalent with 14+ years in claims or underwriting support.
• Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree with 5+ years in underwriting or market-facing roles.
• Zurich approved Apprenticeship program including an Associate Degree with 12+ years in claims or underwriting support.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Experience working in a team environment.
• Experience with Umbrella underwriting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CPCU
• Advanced knowledge of National Account Excess Casualty product lines.
• Knowledge of National Account Primary Casualty and loss-sensitive programs.
