Job summary

Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. partners with a Philadelphia construction management firm to recruit an Estimator. This position reports to the Estimator (PM) and focuses on estimating and bidding work, assisting in CM proposals, and participating in presentations.

The Estimator interfaces with owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors, maintaining knowledge of construction methods and materials, and supporting preconstruction activities.

Qualifications

  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or another relevant field.
  • Experience using On-Screen Takeoff Software, Microsoft Office Programs, Microsoft Project, or Sure Trak.
  • Team player willing to put in what it takes to get the job done.

Responsibilities

  • Preconstruction Services: Work in all aspects of the preconstruction phase, collaborating with PMs and Superintendents.
  • Conceptual Estimating: Develop schematic budgets via subcontractor input and quantity takeoffs.
  • Estimating and Bidding: Prepare and bid work as assigned by the PM.
  • Review of Estimates: Own budgets, estimates, and bids prepared by the Estimator.
  • Subcontractor Selection: Advise PM on bid day and purchasing for subcontractors.
  • Subcontractor Relationships: Build ongoing relationships with quality subs.
  • Training: Support continuous improvement and expand knowledge base.
  • Support Systems: Recommend hardware/software upgrades to improve ITB efficiency.
  • Reporting: Report daily to the Preconstruction Manager for project issues.

Job description

My client is a well regarded Construction Management firm in Philadelphia. Usually in the Top Ten in volume of Construction Management as per the Philly Business Journal every year. The Estimator reports to the Estimator (PM). The Estimator is responsible for estimating and bidding work himself, assist with preparation of CM proposals and participate in presentations. The Estimator must interface and interact with all levels of the company, with owners, architects, engineers and subcontractors. The Estimator must maintain extensive involvement in, and awareness of, construction techniques and knowledge of developing methods and materials within the industry.

Responsibilities
  • Preconstruction Services: Work in all aspects of the preconstruction phase, including working closely with the PM, Project Managers and Superintendents, bidding and purchasing phases to ensure a seamless transition.
  • Conceptual Estimating: Develop schematic budgets through solicitation of subcontractor input, accurate quantity takeoffs, and identification of potential budget items not shown on current documents.
  • Estimating and Bidding: Estimate and/or bid work as assigned by the PM.
  • Review of Estimates: Responsible for all budgets, estimates and bids prepared by the Estimator.
  • Subcontractor Selection: Make recommendations to the PM on bid day and during purchasing for selection of subcontractors.
  • Subcontractor Relationships: Work with the PM to implement an ongoing subcontractor relationship plan with the goal of expanding the base with quality subcontractors.
  • Training: Expand capacity and knowledge base; continuous improvement is expected.
  • Support Systems: Make recommendations concerning new hardware and software or upgrades that could improve performance, update ITB system and database.
  • Reporting: Report daily to the Preconstruction Manager assigned to a specific project, addressing day‑to‑day project issues.
Requirements
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience in the construction industry.
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or another relevant field.
  • Experience using On‑Screen Takeoff Software, Microsoft Office Programs, Microsoft Project, or Sure Trak.
  • Team player willing to put in what it takes to get the job done.
