Job Description
Responsible for preparing estimates for the manufacturing and installation of railing, fencing, architectural metals, and miscellaneous metals (e.g., stairs and landings).
Primary Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and technical documents to prepare accurate estimates.
- Understand project scope and requirements.
- Travel to job sites to gather information on labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and ensure compliance with IBC & ADA codes.
- Calculate requirements for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
- Obtain and review quotes from vendors and subcontractors for accuracy.
- Create detailed project estimating spreadsheets and review estimates with Sales before submission to customers.
- Identify strategic opportunities within proposals to enhance L & L’s competitive position.
- Ensure timely completion of estimates and enter data into sales projections spreadsheets.
- Follow up on estimates and track status within the sales pipeline.
- Establish and maintain relationships with customers, vendors, subcontractors, engineers, and architects.
- Collaborate to ensure accurate and well-documented communication of project data.
- Maintain a cost database from previous projects for reference.
- Attend educational workshops and review technical publications to stay current.
- Consult with team members to resolve potential project issues before commencement.
- Contribute to team efforts by completing related tasks as needed.
- Coordinate effectively between departments for project success.
Requirements
- Proven experience as an estimator or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of financial and project management principles.
- Strong math skills and analytical mindset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and thorough.
- Strong planning and organizational abilities.
- Ability to interpret architectural plans and develop cost estimates.
- Proficiency with construction takeoff software (e.g., Stack CT).
- Understanding of construction processes related to railing, fencing, and miscellaneous metals.
- Basic knowledge of IBC and ADA codes relevant to these structures.
- Familiarity with industry materials, processes, and costs.
- Physical ability to walk properties for site inspections.
- Basic understanding of the commercial construction industry.
