Job summary

Cherubini Bridges and Structures is seeking an Estimator to assess costs, resources, and timelines for projects. The role involves data gathering, analysis, and preparing estimates and proposals for bids.

The successful candidate will contribute to informed decisions and on-time project execution with a focus on civil and structural work. The ideal candidate has a minimum of three years in estimation/project management in construction.

Qualifications

• Minimum of three years experience in estimation/project management in the construction industry.
• Engineering degree or construction-related diploma is asset.
• General civil construction knowledge; understanding of plans, specifications, methods and procedures.
• Extensive knowledge of bid preparation, including quantity take-off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
• Prepare pre-qualification submissions to present clients
• Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine work requirements
• Prepare master format estimates (Class A)
• Prepare elemental format estimates (Classes B, C, D)
• Operate CADD and other computer software systems
• Prepare estimates for general expenses and overheads
• Provide economic feasibility studies and preliminary estimates for proposed projects
• Project cash flow and financing requirements
• Create and submit estimate reports, quote sheets and bids forms
• Utilize quantity take-off procedures
• Advise on tendering procedures
• Analyze tenders and recommend awards
• Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems
• Monitor and adjust contract expenditures
• Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates

Summary

The Estimator assesses the costs, resources, and time required for specific projects. They analyze project requirements, gather data, and use estimation techniques to determine the likely expenses and duration of the project, contributing to informed decision-making and successful project execution. In short, the Estimator is responsible for the day to day preparation of estimates and proposals.

Requirements

• A minimum of three years (3 years) experience in estimation/project management in the construction industry (preference given to those with experience in custom steel//bridges//structural work)
• Undergraduate degree in engineering or post-secondary diploma in a construction related discipline is considered an asset.
• General civil construction knowledge; understanding of plans, specifications, methods and procedures.
• Extensive knowledge of the principles involved in bid preparation, including quantity take off procedures, sub-trade procurement, pricing and bid closing procedures.
• Proven ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
