Job summary

CyberCoders is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Estimator to join our heavy civil team in New York. You will prepare accurate estimates and bid proposals for infrastructure, roadway, earthwork, and site development projects.

You will perform quantity takeoffs, develop cost estimates, solicit subcontractor quotes, and support preconstruction with value engineering and risk review. Strong communication and time-management are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
• Proficiency with takeoff/estimating software and Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication; cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of subcontractor/supplier evaluation and cost control.

Responsibilities

• Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to develop estimates and bid strategies.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using plans and digital tools to determine material, labor, and equipment needs.
• Prepare scope breakdowns, unit price estimates, and lump-sum bids including contingencies.
• Solicit, evaluate, and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotes; negotiate terms as needed.
• Develop and maintain cost databases, historical unit prices, and estimating templates.
• Perform risk assessments and identify schedule, constructability, and cost drivers; recommend mitigations.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to validate assumptions and align estimates with execution plans.
• Prepare bid documents, cost summaries, and presentations for internal review and client submissions.
• Track bid activity, win/loss data, and refine estimating methods based on outcomes.
• Support preconstruction activities including value engineering and constructability reviews.

Civil Construction Estimator

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Civil Construction Estimator to join our heavy civil construction team. The Estimator will prepare accurate, competitive estimates and bid proposals for infrastructure, roadway, earthwork, utility, and site development projects. This role combines technical takeoffs, cost analysis, and close collaboration with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to support successful project wins and profitable execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Review contract documents, drawings, and specifications to develop comprehensive, accurate estimates and bid strategies.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using plans and digital tools to determine material, labor, and equipment requirements.
• Prepare scope breakdowns, unit price estimates, and lump-sum bids including contingencies and allowances.
• Solicit, evaluate, and coordinate subcontractor and supplier quotes; compare pricing and negotiate terms as needed.
• Develop and maintain cost databases, historical unit prices, and estimating templates to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Perform risk assessments and identify schedule, constructability, and cost drivers; recommend mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel to validate assumptions and align estimates with project execution plans.
• Prepare bid documents, cost summaries, and presentations for internal review and client submissions.
• Track bid activity, win/loss data, and continuously refine estimating methods based on project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 5 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction, infrastructure, or earthwork projects.
• Proven knowledge of construction methods, equipment productivity, unit pricing, and cost control.
• Proficiency with takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, HCSS, HeavyBid) and advanced Excel skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time-management skills; able to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines.
• Experience obtaining and evaluating subcontractor and supplier proposals, and knowledge of contract formats and bonding requirements.
• Familiarity with scheduling, value engineering, and risk analysis techniques.
• Valid drivers license; OSHA or other safety certifications preferred.
