Job summary

Zumwalt Construction, Inc. in Fresno, CA is seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to prepare detailed cost estimates and competitive bid proposals for commercial and public-sector projects.

You will review drawings, perform quantity takeoffs, and develop estimates through all design phases, coordinating with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure accurate pricing and on-time bids.

Qualifications

• Review architectural and engineering drawings to define scope and requirements.
• Perform quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Develop estimates during schematic design, design development, and final construction documents.
• Evaluate subcontractor bids and finalize pricing, ensuring competitiveness.
• Maintain estimating databases, historical cost information, and supplier relationships.
• Support handoff to project management after contract award and continuity of estimating to construction.

• Identified potential cost savings and value-engineering opportunities while maintaining project quality and design requirements.
• Coordinated with project managers, general trades, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors throughout the estimating process.
• Compared subcontractor proposals, clarified scope gaps, and identified exclusions, allowances, and potential cost risks.
• Assisted with bid strategy, pricing reviews, proposal preparation, and final bid submissions.
