Job summary

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking seasonal equipment operators to support field operations across the state. Positions involve operating heavy trucks and tractors, as well as light equipment and a range of power tools, with duties spanning multiple construction trades including masonry, carpentry, and electrical work.

Applicants must have at least one year of equipment operation experience and a valid driver’s license.

• One year of experience in the operation of equipment and the possession of a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle operated.

Additional Comments

This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/18/2026. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Transportation needs of this position require use of a state vehicle and adhering to the Department’s Vehicle Policy. You must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for this position.

Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.

Must be able to work in remote areas.

Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.

Travel may be required.

Overtime may be required.

Overnight travel may be required.

Weekends and holidays may be required.

Must be available for emergency response.

Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 80 pounds.
