Job summary

DEUTZ Corporation is seeking a Construction Equipment Engine Diagnostics Technician to diagnose, repair, and install DEUTZ and non-DEUTZ engines in the field, owning the customer experience from first call to final sign-off.

The role requires 2–5 years of construction equipment repair experience, DOT medical card, valid driver's license, and proficiency with Serdia, Serpic, and Fieldaware, plus Microsoft Word/Excel. Expect extensive travel and a hands-on, customer-facing position.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Maintain DOT medical card status; valid driver’s license and insurable.
• Proficiency with Serdia, Serpic, Fieldaware, plus Microsoft Word and Excel.
• 2-5 years of construction equipment repair experience preferred.
• Training/certification in heavy equipment and diesel engine repair preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to customer sites to evaluate engine and equipment issues, then plan and execute OEM-grade repairs.
• Stage required parts/materials in advance; inspect work thoroughly and safely; ensure a professional cosmetic finish.
• Use Serdia, Serpic, and Fieldaware to diagnose, document, and close out work orders and timesheets on time.
• Coordinate with the Service Supervisor, Parts, customers, new engine sales, and engineering/warranty to align on solutions.
• Maintain a clean, DOT-compliant service truck and an optimized parts inventory for first-call completion and local parts sales.
• Return unused parts per DEUTZ Power Center guidelines; assist with warranty claims and customer invoicing.
• Adhere to all DEUTZ policies and procedures, including travel and company credit card usage.
• Other duties as assigned.

Role Logistics

Travel: Expect 70-90% domestic and international travel driven by business demand.

Reporting: Individual contributor (no supervisory responsibilities).

Experience & Credentials

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Maintain DOT medical card status; valid driver’s license and insurable.
• Proficiency with Serdia, Serpic, Fieldaware, plus Microsoft Word and Excel.
• 2-5 years of construction equipment repair experience preferred.
• Training/certification in heavy equipment and diesel engine repair preferred.

• Diagnostic depth in NG/CNG systems; familiarity with Tier 3-4 emissions.
• Strong knowledge of DEUTZ diesel engines.
• Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and meets all requirements to operate a company service vehicle.
• Clear, respectful communicator—written, in person, and by phone.
• Fluent with portable diagnostic tools and essential computer functions.
• Bring your own tools; DEUTZ supplies key specialty tools.

Abilities

• Language: Read safety/operating manuals and procedures; write routine reports; present effectively to groups.
• Mathematics: Perform calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals; compute rates/ratios/percentages; interpret bar graphs.
• Reasoning: Address practical problems with limited standardization; interpret written, oral, diagram, and schedule instructions.

Where You’ll Work

Shop and field environments with frequent standing/walking; exposure to weather and loud noise may occur.

Physical Requirements

Daily activities include concentration, sitting, standing, verbal communication, hearing, listening, vision, lifting, and bending.
