Job summary

Kiewit is seeking Design Engineer Interns in its construction operations in Phoenix, AZ. This hands-on field internship lets you participate in design engineering, perform calculations, develop plans, schedule tasks, and mitigate risk to keep crews safe while learning company standards and tools.

Ideal candidates are pursuing civil engineering or construction management degrees, may travel/relocate, and bring strong work ethic, teamwork, and a safety mindset.

Qualifications

• Travel or relocate as needed.
• Full-time summer work May–August.
• Pursuing civil engineering or construction management degree.
• Currently enrolled at Colorado School of Mines, Iowa State University, Purdue University, University of Colorado-Boulder, or University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a member of the Kiewit Scholars Program.
• Ability to access construction sites in varied climates and environments.
• Motivated with strong ethics and safety mindset.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and attention to detail.
• Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Field engineering, operation planning, cost control, project scheduling, quantity tracking, material procurement, contract administration, estimating & supervision of field activities.
• Performing engineering tasks requiring standard techniques and handling minor problems of a technical nature arising during construction.
• Maintaining records as required regarding job progress, costs, material usage, etc.
• Planning and scheduling of job and/or job segments.
• Investigating problems and/or reported incidents; identifying and recommending solutions/alternatives as appropriate.
• Reviewing plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities), pricing of materials, etc.
• Working with suppliers as required facilitating the handling and expediting delivery of materials.
