Job summary

The Poole and Kent Corporation in Ashland, KY, is seeking a Cost Accountant, Construction (Project Support) to support pay applications and project accounting for our diverse commercial projects.

You will audit accounts payable and payroll data, prepare Excel-based reports, ensure SOX compliance, and maintain payroll confidentiality. This is an on-site role with standard business hours and occasional overtime to meet deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Construction Management.
• 1–3 years of related professional cost accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
• General accounting fundamentals and concepts.
• Strong understanding of related accounting practices and procedures.
• Advanced working knowledge of accounting systems software.
• Professional experience with certified payroll requirements and bona fide fringe benefits.

Responsibilities

• Review and understand pay applications per upstream contractual requirements.
• Audit accounts payable invoices for project pay applications.
• Audit payroll data and interpret certified payroll reports.
• Ensure timesheets and time cards are complete and approved.
• Prepare and customize Excel reports for data feeds to rollup workbooks.
• Develop timely and accurate project pay applications.
• Protect payroll information with confidentiality.
• Overtime as needed to meet deadlines.
• Ensure compliance with accounting principles, SOX, and laws.
