Job summary

U.S. Engineering is seeking a Corporate Counsel to join our Legal & Risk Management Department. The role focuses on contract review, corporate filings, and workers’ compensation/insurance matters, offering hands-on experience in construction law and risk management within a growing organization.

Ideal candidates have 2–5 years of relevant experience, a J.D. from an accredited school, and an active Missouri license.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and Missouri license to practice.
• 2–5 years of relevant legal experience in corporate, construction, or insurance settings.
• Strong contract drafting and review skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Clear, practical communication with non-lawyer business partners (PMs, PEs, Directors).
• Knowledge of contract law, corporate governance, and regulatory filings.
• Knowledge of workers' compensation, general liability, and insurance claims processes.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

• Review, draft, and redline commercial construction contracts and subcontracts; flag risk and negotiate terms with GC.
• Prepare, file, and maintain corporate filings and entity records across subsidiaries.
• Support workers' compensation claims with claims tracking and internal reporting.
• Assist with general liability, property, and other insurance claims, including coverage analysis.
• Provide legal support on employment matters in coordination with HR and GC.
• Track and manage project-level legal risk, including claims and disputes on active projects.
• Contribute to internal legal training and compliance initiatives for project teams.
• Perform legal research and prepare memos on contract, insurance, and construction law issues.
