Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develop and assemble detailed work packages for construction activities using drawings, specifications, schedules, and project docs.
  • Review IFC drawings to ensure packages contain complete and accurate information.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Project Controls, and Construction to meet prerequisites before work begins.
  • Verify materials, equipment, permits, inspections, and quality docs are available prior to field execution.
  • Track status of work packages from development to closeout and maintain document control.
  • Support planning by sequencing work packages to align with project schedule.
  • Identify missing information or schedule impacts and communicate to project leadership.
  • Assist with quantity tracking and progress reporting; ensure ITPs and checklists are included in packages.
  • Participate in planning meetings and collaborate with field supervision.
  • Continuously improve work package processes and documentation standards.

Position Summary

Our customer is a utility in Arizona looking to add 2,000 MW of pumped storage energy to its overall capacity to meet growing demand on its network. We are building a high-performing joint venture team to deliver this complex EPC heavy civil project and are looking for motivated, hands-on, collaborative innovators, doers, and problem solvers.

The project will involve the use of a lower reservoir and the creation of an upper reservoir through the construction of new dams. The reservoirs will be connected by underground waterways tunneled into the rock, channeling water down the approximately 1,200-foot drop between the two reservoirs. The project scope includes significant access road development, construction of the upper reservoir with dams and an overflow spillway, underground tunnel waterways in challenging geological and hydrogeological conditions, upper and lower reservoir inlet/outlet structures, hydromechanical equipment, an underground powerhouse, and surface site facilities and buildings.

The Work Package Technician is responsible for developing, coordinating, and maintaining construction work packages that ensure field operations have the information, materials, documentation, and approvals necessary to execute work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project requirements. This role serves as a key liaison between Engineering, Project Controls, Procurement, Quality, and Construction to ensure work is "construction ready" before crews mobilize.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and assemble detailed work packages for construction activities using engineering drawings, specifications, schedules, and project documentation.
  • Review Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings to ensure work packages contain complete and accurate information.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Project Controls, and Construction teams to ensure all prerequisites are met before work begins.
  • Verify that required materials, equipment, permits, inspections, and quality documentation are available prior to field execution.
  • Track work package status from development through field completion and closeout.Maintain document control, revisions, and distribution of work package documentation.Coordinate material availability with procurement and warehouse personnel.Support construction planning by sequencing work packages to align with the project schedule.Identify missing information, constructability concerns, or potential schedule impacts and communicate them to project leadership.Maintain accurate records of completed work packages and project documentation.Assist with quantity tracking and progress reporting.Support quality assurance by ensuring Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, and required documentation are included in work packages.Participate in planning meetings and collaborate with field supervision to prioritize upcoming work.Continuously improve work package processes and documentation standards.Perform other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications
    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
    • Minimum of 25 years of experience in construction, engineering, project controls, document control, or work package development.
    • Experience supporting large EPC, heavy civil, tunneling, mining, hydroelectric, industrial, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.Experience using Bluebeam, Primavera P6, Procore, Aconex, SharePoint, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar project management systems is preferred.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Experience supporting underground construction, tunneling, dams, hydroelectric, or water infrastructure projects.
      • Familiarity with construction sequencing and field execution planning.
      • Understanding of document control processes and revision management.
      • Experience working within joint venture organizations.
      • Knowledge of quality management systems and Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
      Physical Requirements
      • Ability to work in both office and active construction site environments.
      • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
      • Ability to climb stairs and navigate uneven terrain during field visits.
      • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
      • Ability to travel to project work areas as needed.
