Job Title

Construction Coordinator

Summary

The Construction Coordinator coordinates home rehabilitation and new construction projects through grants and/or loan programs approved by Affordable Homes of South Texas, Inc. The Rehabilitation Construction Specialist also collaborates with the city of McAllen & Hidalgo/Cameron County program Coordinators to manage rehab activities such as communicating with vendors, monitoring budget spending, and partnering with other departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Requests environmental, survey, and elevation certificates to ensure compliance with applicable laws and program guidelines.
  • Prepare work scopes for bids on homes under rehabilitation and new construction projects based on the home inspection and identified repairs needed.
  • Manages the end-to-end rehabilitation / construction process to ensure program compliance with qualified grants and/or loans.
  • Responds to customer call backs and concerns regarding home rehabilitation and new home construction programs.
  • Provides updated documentation to contractors on each project's rehabilitation.
  • Performs inspections on a weekly basis as required by projects.
  • Manages service repair calls and creates work scopes for the old “New Beginnings” lease program.
  • Performs monthly inspections to the Old New Beginnings lease program homes.
  • Prepares demolition, sewer plug, moving permits, and building permits with local cities.
  • Completes material selection for new home construction customers under the Rehab program.
  • Completes material selection for new home construction customers when required.
  • Conducts administrative duties related to the rehabilitation process, such as scheduling meetings, drafting invoices, and drawing estimates, tracking, and reporting project progress.
  • Assists in the preparation of demolition and building permits for each city.
  • Facilitates bid walkthroughs with construction contractors to ensure accurate project estimates and timelines.
  • Edits and prepares site plans and building permits including new construction for submission to city departments.
  • Communicates consistently with residents, contractors, and city officials to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Produces quarterly reports for submission to the city, including narrative summaries of expenditures, project progress, and client activity
  • Prepares internal pipeline reports for presentation during departmental meetings.
  • Covers the front desk area when the Construction Services Coordinator is unavailable.
  • Participates in cross training with other departments when assigned.
  • Assists the Construction Department as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid, current, and non-restricted Texas Driver’s License required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Construction or related field.
  • 1 or more years of experience in home construction.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish, with strong written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general documents, and government regulations.
  • Experience with Adobe, REVVER, and CRM software.
Work Environment

This job operates 60% in the field and 40% in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

The employee will also be frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including rain, heat, and humidity. The work environment typically has a high level of noise. Additionally, the employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently.

Expected Work Hours

Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the organization's core work hours, which are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A minimum of 40 hours per week is expected.

Travel

This position may require occasional travel outside the area for training. Employees may also be required to drive up to 100 miles round trip in a company vehicle in a single day.
