• Completion of FDOT courses in contract plans reading, earthwork inspection, sub grade inspection, base inspection, construction math, pipe placement, structures inspection I and II and asphaltic concrete testing as determined necessary during the first six months of employment.

• Prepares informational notices and bulletins updating the public on upcoming City projects, status updates on active projects, alerts, and roadway bulletins.

Job description

The Public Works Construction Coordinator provides oversight of city construction projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and according to specifications and regulations. This includes assistance in managing contracts, coordinating teams, monitoring progress, and ensuring quality and safety standards are met. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Public Works Director.

• Assists in the management of complex construction projects and activities, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, ordinances, rules, regulations, and standards.
• Manages and leads project management activities of minor construction projects and activities including ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, ordinances, rules, regulations, and standards.
• Assists in the administration of contracts for City projects with contractors, consultants, and suppliers, as applicable, during the construction of City projects. This includes monitoring established timelines, scheduled progress and change orders.
• Provides budget oversight for construction projects; reviews pay applications from the contractor for tasks, phases, and project closeouts.
• Meets and communicates with residents to address project activities.
• Prepares informational notices and bulletins updating the public on upcoming City projects, status updates on active projects, alerts, and roadway bulletins. Works with the Public Information Officer to ensure information is disseminated to the public, via the City website and social media platforms.
• Manages and leads pre-construction meetings and progress meetings for minor construction projects; provides collaborative support and assistance for pre-construction and progress meetings for complex construction projects.
• Collaborates with city inspectors regarding construction activities, inspections, pay applications, and other construction inspection related items.
• Conducts work site inspections to ensure work is completed in accordance with project and quality control guidelines; ensures compliance with OSHA regulations.
• Communicates any noncompliance issues with contractor(s) and issues stop-work notices if necessary.
• Maintains accurate project file records; prepares weekly progress reports for construction projects and communicates progress status to stakeholders.
• Facilitates the management of contractor requests for information, shop drawings, and submittals.
• Responds to complaints and concerns from contractors and citizens and facilitates the proper investigation and response.
• Serves as essential personnel during natural or man-made disasters and emergencies.
• Performs related tasks as required.

Associate’s degree in construction and/or Civil Engineering Technology or similar degree and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in engineering, infrastructure inspection, construction, or related works.

Valid driver’s license (must obtain Florida driver’s license within thirty days of employment).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Must have a current Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification or have the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
• Completion of FDOT courses in contract plans reading, earthwork inspection, sub grade inspection, base inspection, construction math, pipe placement, structures inspection I and II and asphaltic concrete testing as determined necessary during the first six (6) months of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ANDABILITIES

• Ability to organize and manage construction projects.
• Ability to understand the pertinent aspects of contracts.
• Knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials, and equipment related to public works.
• Knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.
• Knowledge and application of a variety of engineering, architecture, maintenance, and construction trades.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, blueprints, permits, as-builts, and other construction documents typically required for construction projects, both horizontal and vertical; and to compare them with various aspects of constructions in progress.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners and others to effect satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to prepare reports.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
