Job summary

SMS, a reputable construction company operating in Utah and Idaho, seeks a Controller/Accounting Manager to manage all accounting functions, lead monthly closes, ensure GAAP compliance, and provide financial analysis to support strategic decisions.

Reporting to the president, you will coordinate budgets, audits, tax compliance, and collaboration with external partners, fostering improvement and integrity across financial operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; commensurate experience may be acceptable.
• 3–5 years of experience in finance within a construction company.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial systems, and internal controls.
• ERP experience with Microsoft SL; Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Proven ability to lead and develop accounting teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration across management and staff.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills.
• High integrity, discretion, and professionalism.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all accounting operations including billing, AR/AP, payroll, inventory, and GL.
• Oversee monthly and annual close processes and reporting cycles.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and licensing regulations.
• Coordinate annual budgets and financial forecasts with divisions’ management.
• Oversee preparation and accuracy of GAAP-based financial statements.
• Manage balance sheet reconciliations and account analyses.
• Conduct routine financial analyses to identify trends and improvements.
• Support strategic planning and regulatory filings; coordinate audits.
