Job summary

S&S Paving & Construction, LLC, headquartered in Phoenix, AZ, seeks an experienced Controller to lead all accounting operations, ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain internal controls, and support strategic initiatives. CPA preferred with construction industry exposure and public accounting background.

This senior role requires oversight of AR/AP, payroll, project accounting, audits, and tax engagements, along with collaboration with the CFO on budgeting and financial planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum of five (5) years of public accounting experience with significant exposure to construction clients.
• Strong technical accounting and auditing knowledge.
• Thorough understanding of percentage-of-completion accounting and construction financial reporting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Power Query, and financial modeling.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proven leadership and team management experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all daily accounting operations, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Cash Management, Payroll, and Project Accounting.
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Maintain compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Collaborate with the CFO on financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.
• Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to executive leadership.
• Oversee monthly and year-end close processes.
• Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Coordinate and manage annual financial statement audits and tax engagements.
• Monitor work-in-progress schedules and percentage-of-completion accounting.
• Analyze financial performance and identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
• Support private equity reporting requirements and lender reporting obligations.
• Assist with acquisitions, integrations, and other strategic initiatives as needed.
