Job summary

Sierra Ventures in Manassas, VA is seeking an experienced Construction CPA to serve as the financial leader supporting a portfolio of electrical infrastructure and construction projects. This role partners with executive leadership, project managers, and operations to drive profitability, strengthen controls, and provide strategic financial guidance throughout the lifecycle of complex projects.

The ideal candidate has CPA credentials, 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in construction

Qualifications

  • Active CPA with 7+ years of progressive accounting experience in construction
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, revenue recognition, and project forecasting
  • Advanced Excel skills and ability to communicate with executives and operations teams

Responsibilities

  • Lead the financial management of multiple construction projects from contract award through closeout.
  • Analyze project profitability, budgets, forecasts, committed costs, and cash flow.
  • Review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition.
  • Monitor job costing and proactively identify budget variances and financial risks.
  • Partner directly with Project Managers to improve financial performance.
  • Present project financial reporting to executive leadership.
  • Support strategic decision-making through financial analysis and review contracts, change orders, subcontractor costs, and project billing.
  • Strengthen accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting accuracy.
  • Assist with month-end close, project reconciliations, and financial forecasting.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Construction CPA to serve as the financial leader supporting our growing portfolio of electrical infrastructure and construction projects.

This is not a traditional accounting position. We're looking for someone with a Controller-level mindset who can partner directly with executive leadership, project managers, and operations to drive project profitability, strengthen financial controls, improve reporting, and provide strategic financial guidance throughout the lifecycle of complex construction projects.

The ideal candidate understands both construction accounting and project operations and can confidently translate financial data into actionable business decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the financial management of multiple construction projects from contract award through closeout.
  • Analyze project profitability, budgets, forecasts, committed costs, and cash flow.
  • Review Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and revenue recognition.
  • Monitor job costing and proactively identify budget variances and financial risks.

  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Construction, electrical, engineering, utility, EPC, or project-based industry experience required
