Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance Company seeks a Construction Casualty Underwriter for the Midwest/Central Region, based in Chicago or Houston. You will grow the construction casualty book, expand broker and client relationships, and collaborate with loss control, claims and legal teams to mitigate risk.

The role requires strong underwriting acumen, broker networks, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Experienced Underwriter with 5 to 15 years Casualty underwriting experience (Prior Construction Underwriting Experience a Plus).
• Strong underwriting acumen.
• Existing broker & customer relationships.
• Ability to work within a fast paced, customer focused & team environment.
• Passion, integrity, technical skills, proactive and client oriented.

Responsibilities

• Develop and grow the Construction Casualty book of business including primary, lead umbrella, and excess on both practice and project business.
• Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships in the Midwest/Central Region.
• Work closely with loss control, claims, and legal teams to evaluate risk and provide solutions to customers.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity.
• Maintain a profitable renewal book.
• Travel up to 20% of the time.
