Job summary

Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity is seeking a hands-on team member to help supervise volunteers on construction sites and support hands-on tasks such as framing, insulation, and finish work. You will focus on safety, material management, and coordinating with the construction team on daily activities.

The role emphasizes strong communication, leadership, and the ability to mentor volunteers while adhering to safety guidelines and building codes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Two or more years’ experience in residential construction or one year full-time staff or stipend volunteer experience with Habitat for Humanity’s construction programs.
• Previous experience teaching or supervising volunteers or students preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
• Effective interpersonal skills with a variety of people, personalities and backgrounds.
• Able to lead, manage, supervise and motivate individuals and teams of volunteers.
• Knowledge of residential building codes and safety practices.
• HFHI Competent Person Certification (or able to be certified within 12 months of hiring).

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing volunteers on assigned jobs.
• Perform hands-on construction tasks including demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.
• Ensure positive experiences for volunteers and AmeriCorps members on the work sites.
• Maintain site safety by following safety practices and guidelines.
• Assist in materials management on site and at the affiliate warehouse.
• Assist in completing the final walk-through checklist and closing punch list for assigned houses.
• Participate in required department or affiliate-wide meetings, events, training, and process improvement.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
