Connect Search, LLC is seeking an Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer to join our commercial and industrial construction team in Detroit. You will work directly with Project Managers and Superintendents, handling documentation, coordination, and follow-through to keep projects on time and within budget.
You'll gain hands-on experience across preconstruction through closeout, developing estimating and contract knowledge while growing into a full Project Manager role through mentorship
Looking to build a career in commercial and industrial construction with real ownership from day one? We're hiring an Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer to work directly alongside our Project Managers and Superintendents- learning the business from the ground up while playing a real role in delivering our projects on time and on budget.
This is the right-hand seat to the PM. You'll be in the middle of every phase of project delivery-pre-construction through closeout- managing the documentation, coordination, and follow-through that keeps a job moving, while building the estimating, contract, and field knowledge that sets you up to grow into a full Project Manager role. If you're organized, curious, and want mentorship from experienced construction leadership rather than a desk job with no path forward, this is built for you.
Manage the RFI and submittal processes end to end- logging, routing, tracking responses, and keeping approvals on schedule. Help track and maintain project budgets, flagging cost variances to the PM before they become problems. Review contract drawings and specs alongside the PM, and help spot scope gaps before they cause field issues. Support subcontractor bid review, contract drafting, and change order tracking. Communicate daily with the Superintendent to stay ahead of schedule and budget risks. Assist in preparing monthly draw requests and reviewing project costs. Visit project sites regularly to document progress and report findings back to the team. Track subcontractor compliance- insurance certificates, executed agreements- before anyone mobilizes on-site. Keep project documentation and correspondence organized, accurate, and audit-ready.
1-5 years of experience in construction project engineering, assistant project management, or field engineering- commercial, industrial, or multifamily project experience preferred. A recent construction management, engineering, or related degree with internship/co-op experience will also be considered. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail across multiple concurrent workstreams. Clear written and verbal communication with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and internal teams. Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project; Procore experience is a plus. A self-starter mentality- comfortable working independently, but quick to raise a hand when something needs escalation.
We invest in developing our people. This role isn't administrative support-it's a structured path toward a Project Manager career, with direct mentorship from PMs and Superintendents who've built the projects you'll be learning on.
