Job summary

Colas Construction, Inc. is seeking an Assistant Controller to partner with the Controller and operational leaders to ensure accurate, GAAP-compliant financial close and reporting across multiple entities, including construction revenue, project accounting, AP, and fixed assets.

The role provides technical accounting guidance, leads a high-performing team, and supports audit readiness in a controlled environment, bringing construction experience and sound judgment to drive operational decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field required.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience in the construction industry.
• AP cycle management and vendor master governance.
• Applied ASC 606 revenue recognition in a construction WIP context.
• Multi-entity monthly close management including intercompany eliminations and consolidation.
• Advanced knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.

Responsibilities

• Close Execution & Financial Reporting: lead monthly close and GAAP-compliant statements across all COLAS entities.
• WIP Integrity & Construction Revenue Recognition: monitor job cost entry and percent-complete estimates.
• General Ledger & Balance Sheet Governance: maintain reconciled balance sheets and intercompany eliminations.
• Procure-to-Pay & Vendor Governance: govern AP cycle, vendor management, and fraud controls.
• Fixed Assets, Leases & Specialized Accounting: ASC 842 leases and asset subledger reconciliations.
• Technical Authority & Staff Development: provide guidance and training to staff.
• Internal Controls & Audit Coordination: maintain audit readiness and remediation.
• Team Leadership & Bench Development: grow staff with clear growth paths.
