Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is partnering with a growing construction organization to recruit an Accounts Payable Lead in Shelton, CT. The role oversees day-to-day AP, manages high-volume invoice processing, vendor relations, subcontractor payments, and job cost coding.

You will mentor AP staff, ensure accurate PO matching and timely payments, support month-end close, and drive process improvements across multiple projects. A degree in accounting and 5+ years in AP—preferably in construction—are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 5+ years of Accounts Payable experience, with lead/supervisory experience.
• Strong understanding of job costing and construction accounting practices.
• Experience processing high-volume invoices in a project-based environment.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support daily Accounts Payable operations for multiple construction projects.
• Review, code, and process vendor and subcontractor invoices accurately and timely.
• Ensure invoices match purchase orders, contracts, and receiving documents.
• Manage weekly check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers.
• Reconcile vendor statements and resolve payment discrepancies.
• Maintain vendor records, including W-9s and certificates of insurance.
• Coordinate with Project Managers and other teams on invoice approvals.
• Support month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and accruals.
• Assist with year-end audits and 1099 preparation.
• Identify process improvements to streamline AP workflows.
• Train and mentor AP staff and act as primary AP contact.
