Job summary

Phoenix, AZ-based Wwshemi is seeking a Construction Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting for active construction projects. The role offers hands-on leadership with exposure to the CFO and senior management, guiding project financial performance and accounting operations.

You will manage WIP, job costing, progress billing, change orders, and monthly closings, while mentoring the accounting team and ensuring strong internal controls across AP, AR, payroll, and cash management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 8+ years of accounting experience.
• 3+ years of accounting management experience.
• 3+ years of construction accounting experience required.
• Strong understanding of WIP and job costing.
• Experience with progress billing, change orders, and project budgets.
• Strong month-end close, GL, reconciliation, and financial reporting experience.
• Experience overseeing AP, AR, payroll, and cash management.
• Sage construction accounting software experience is highly preferred.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations and accounting personnel
• Manage the general ledger and support the monthly close process
• Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements
• Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, collections, and payroll
• Prepare cash management reports, monitor cash flow, and identify potential financial concerns
• Partner with Project Managers and department leaders to review project financial performance
• Track and analyze WIP, job costs, project budgets, and construction‑related variances
• Support progress billing and change‑order accounting
• Maintain accurate financial records and effective internal controls
• Prepare monthly financial and operational reporting for managementAssist with budgeting, financial analysis, compliance, insurance reporting, and other special projects
• Help maintain and optimize Sage and other construction‑related accounting systems
