Job summary

Employee Workplace in St. Louis is seeking a Staff Accountant / Senior Staff Accountant to join its accounting team.

This is a newly created role with significant growth potential, reporting to the Accounting Manager, and becoming her primary backup over time. You will own AR, progress billing, WIP reporting, month-end close, and help improve accounting processes while collaborating with project managers on billing and job-cost activity.

Qualifications

• Staff or Senior Staff Accountant experience.
• Construction accounting experience is a MUST.
• WIP and progress billing experience.
• Strong GL and month-end close knowledge.
• Solid GAAP and overall accounting fundamentals.
• Advanced Excel skills, particularly VLOOKUPs and formulas.
• Strong attention to detail and deadline urgency.
• Ability to understand how AP, AR, payroll, and billing impact the overall financial picture.

Responsibilities

• Own AR, progress billing, and construction invoicing.
• Support WIP reporting and project financial reviews.
• Review GL activity, AP coding, accruals, and period cutoff.
• Assist with month-end close and fixed assets.
• Track change orders and job-cost activity.
• Work directly with project managers on billing and WIP.
• Cross-train across AP and payroll.
• Help improve accounting processes and systems.
