We are seeking a Construction Accountant to own the day-to-day accounting function for an active portfolio of hotel and commercial construction projects. You will work closely with project managers, superintendents, and ownership to keep job costs accurate, subcontractors paid, and financials clean.
Responsibilities
- Maintain job cost accounting across all active projects, including budget setup, cost coding, and variance tracking
- Process subcontractor pay applications and vendor invoices; verify against contracts, change orders, and schedules of values
- Prepare and submit monthly owner draws (AIA G702/G703) and coordinate with lenders and title companies on funding requisitions
- Manage lien waiver collection and vendor compliance documentation (COIs, W-9s)
- Administer subcontracts, purchase orders, change orders, and buyouts
- Prepare WIP reporting, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition and over/under billing analysis
- Handle AP/AR, weekly check runs, collections, and monthly bank and GL reconciliations
- Support payroll, sales/use tax filings, 1099s, audits, and lender reporting
- Partner with ownership on cash flow forecasting and project profitability analysis
Qualifications
- 3+ years of accounting experience in construction or general contracting
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of job cost accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion methodology
- Familiarity with AIA billing, lien waivers, and subcontractor compliance
- Proficiency with construction or ERP accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage 300 CRE, Foundation, Procore, or similar) and strong Excel skills
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines
- Clear communicator comfortable working with field staff, subcontractors, and ownership
Preferred
- Experience with hotel, hospitality, or ground-up multi-project construction
- Exposure to construction lending, draw processes, and title company coordination
