This course focuses on the hotel industry, with an emphasis on the role of hotels and resorts in Orange County.
All aspects of hotel operations will be covered, including front-of-house (guest-facing) and back-of-house (behind-the-scenes) departments, functions, and procedures.
Students will deepen their passion for guest service in the hospitality industry by learning and applying skills in hotel or resort environments.
The course will demonstrate entry-level skills across a variety of areas, including front office, reception desk, portering and concierge services, housekeeping, and banquet, conference, and hotel food service outlets.
The course is designed to favor a mix of lecture, guided reading, hands-on experiential learning, and collaborative teamwork (including role-play and physical skills based on real-life hotel practices), reflective work (to document personal development), and a summative project of the students’ own design and making.
Finally, for those interested in applying, preparation and practice for the AHLEI Certified Guest Services Professional exam will be offered as a capstone event. This certification distinguishes those who hold it as trained and dedicated individuals serious about a career in hospitality.
