Job summary

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California invites applications for the Youth Corps Member Lead. Under supervision, you will carry out objectives to the Lead Youth Corps, assist with environmental projects and field activities, monitor Tribal natural resources, and maintain confidentiality of privileged information.

You will supervise Youth Corps Members, teach teamwork and safety, contribute to erosion control, trail construction, and heavy equipment safety, with opportunities to mentor leaders

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED and two years in a related field or education and experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds and harsh environmental conditions.
• Willingness to supervise youth and follow discipline policies.

Responsibilities

• Supervise, train and evaluate Youth Corps Members.
• Oversee a crew on conservation projects in urban and rural areas, including remote locations.
• Teach productivity, teamwork, safe work habits and discipline; enforce policies.
• Instruct on protection and conservation of natural resources and nature-based solutions.
• Instruct on skills such as construction, landscaping, erosion control and trail work.
• Operate heavy equipment safely and follow safety protocols.
• Respond to emergencies (wildfire, floods, snow events, pests, mudslides) with prompt action.
• Develop leadership skills and mentor Youth Corps Members leaders.
• Maintain health, safety, and welfare; supervise after-hours when assigned.
• Recordkeeping, time/leave records, and supervisor reports; document conservation activities.
• Travel for training, meetings, conferences and events.
