The Manager of Conflicts & New Business will oversee the firm’s conflicts, new business intake, and risk management functions. This role requires a strong understanding of legal ethics, conflicts of interest, and risk considerations, along with sound professional judgment and attention to detail. The Manager will evaluate and resolve potential conflicts, advise attorneys on conflicts-related procedures, support lateral attorney onboarding, and prepare documentation such as screening memoranda. This position will serve as a key liaison between Firm leadership and business departments and will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the end-to-end conflicts, new business intake, and risk management processes.
- Serve as the senior escalation point and primary liaison between Firm leadership, attorneys, and relevant business departments on conflicts and risk matters.
- Conduct extensive internal and external research on existing and prospective clients, related parties, and matters to identify potential conflicts of interest.
- Perform due diligence and analyze complex information to evaluate and resolve actual and potential conflicts.
- Assess risk issues and provide timely clearance in a deadline-driven environment.
- Analyze large volumes of complex data and communicate findings and recommendations clearly and concisely.
- Identify situations requiring conflicts waivers and work with attorneys to evaluate and address waiver requirements.
- Review new business intake forms, ensuring party information is complete, accurate, and properly entered.
- Review client engagement letters and new matter requests for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm procedures.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client and matter databases, including current and historical information.
- Draft and maintain conflicts-related documentation, including screening memoranda and other risk management materials.
- Support conflicts-related processes associated with lateral attorney onboarding.
- Develop and implement systems, procedures, and process improvements to streamline conflicts and new business workflows.
- Play an integral role in the implementation and enhancement of conflicts and new business intake systems, including downstream applications.
- Review existing policies and procedures and recommend updates or enhancements as needed.
- Collaborate closely with team members and firm stakeholders to ensure consistent application of conflicts and risk procedures.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in a law firm or legal/risk environment with primary responsibility for conflicts analysis, reporting, and oversight of conflicts processes.
- Strong understanding of legal ethics, conflicts of interest, and risk management principles.
- Experience overseeing or supervising conflicts and new business intake processes.
- Experience with Intapp Open and/or Intapp Conflicts strongly preferred.
- Experience with research and due diligence platforms such as S&P Capital IQ, Dun & Bradstreet Family Tree, Hoovers Business Reports, and LSEG World-Check One.
- Ability to research and interpret complex corporate structures, including subsidiaries, affiliates, and related entities.
- Experience implementing or upgrading conflicts and new business intake systems preferred.
- Strong understanding of client and matter database management and maintenance.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex information and exercise sound judgment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative approach with the ability to work effectively with attorneys, Firm leadership, and cross-functional teams.
