Job summary

Venable LLP in Chicago, IL seeks a Conflicts Attorney to evaluate and resolve conflicts of interest for new business intake, matter openings, and onboarding. You will conduct in-depth analyses, advise partners on risk and ethics, and ensure compliance with professional rules.

Responsibilities include drafting waivers, reviewing Outside Counsel Guidelines, supporting ethical screens, and maintaining high-quality conflicts data.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active IL bar status.
• Minimum 3 years' conflicts or professional responsibility experience in a midsize/large law firm.
• Ability to analyze complex legal relationships and conflict scenarios.
• Two years' private practice experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify and analyze actual and potential conflicts for existing and prospective clients.
• Recommend conflict-resolution strategies and ethical walls as needed.
• Draft and maintain conflict waivers, disclosures, and engagement letters.
• Review Outside Counsel Guidelines and engagement letters for conflicts provisions.
• Conduct conflicts analyses for lateral attorney candidates and coordinate with ethics leadership.
• Educate attorneys and staff on conflicts procedures and client-relationship considerations.
