Job summary

Venable LLP in Baltimore, MD seeks a Conflicts Attorney to evaluate and resolve conflicts-of-interest for new business intake, matter openings, client updates, and lateral attorney onboarding. You will conduct complex analyses, advise on risk and ethics, and ensure compliance with professional responsibility rules and firm policies.

Responsibilities include identifying and analyzing actual and potential conflicts, drafting waivers and ethical screens, and supporting matter opening workflows.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active MD bar status.
• Minimum 3 years of conflicts or professional responsibility experience.
• Preference for 2+ years of law practice in private practice.
• Proficiency with conflicts/new-business intake systems and strong research skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and diplomacy.

Responsibilities

• Identify and analyze actual and potential conflicts for existing and prospective clients by researching internal systems and external databases.
• Recommend conflict-resolution strategies, including ethical walls, disclosures, consent letters, and engagement modifications.
• Draft and maintain conflict waivers, disclosures, engagement letters and supporting documentation.
• Review Outside Counsel Guidelines and engagement letters for conflicts-related provisions; advise on restrictions, required screens, and data updates.
• Conduct conflicts analyses for lateral attorney candidates; coordinate with Division Managers and Ethics Committee and prepare consent letters and documentation.
• Educate attorneys and legal staff on ethical obligations, conflicts procedures, and client relationship considerations.
