Job summary

Crowell & Moring LLP is seeking a Conflicts Analyst to perform conflict-of-interest checks for new representations and lateral hires. You will review new matter requests, enter data into the conflicts system, and assist with resolution of conflicts for special projects.

Responsibilities include researching parties, verifying affiliations, and ensuring compliance with firm policies and professional rules. The role involves training and collaboration with the Conflicts team.

Job Summary

The Conflicts Analyst supports the firm’s risk management need and new business function by collecting necessary information to perform thorough and accurate conflict of interest checks on proposed new representations and lateral attorney hiring. The Analyst is responsible for review and analysis of new matter requests and conflicts information related to firm acceptance of new matters and lateral hiring. The Analyst also assists with the resolution of conflicts issues and conflicts review associated with special projects, such as bankruptcies and lateral hiring.

Workweek Schedule

Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. PT.

Job Responsibilities
  • Conducts corporate research using internet and other research tools, based on notification of potential new representation, to confirm accuracy of party names and to identify corporate family affiliates for all practice groups.
  • Enters and updates data in the firm’s conflicts database and conducts database searches to identify potential conflicts with matters already in system and generates conflicts reports for analysis by firm’s attorneys.
  • Analyzes information provided with new matter requests for compliance with firm policies and applicable rules of professional responsibility.
  • Reviews conflict of interest reports for new firm matters to confirm no potential conflicts problems or to identify conflicts problems in need of resolution.
  • Assists with resolution strategies and outreach to impacted attorneys within the firm.
  • Reviews engagement letters for new clients to ensure compliance with firm templates, as well as the inclusion of special language as needed.
  • Reviews new matter scope communications to ensure compliance with firm policies and risk management concerns.
  • Assists Conflicts Director, Manager and Assistant Manager with the training of new Conflicts Information Specialists and Conflicts Analysts, as well as ongoing training regarding procedures, process updates, and changes due to software changes, application changes, technical upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Assists with issues associated with special projects, such as bankruptcies, lateral groups, or ethics walls.
  • Participates in testing, development, and analytic activities associated with the Conflicts Department’s implementation and upgrade of electronic tools, software, applications, and new electronic processes.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of conflicts of interest issues
  • High level of knowledge and ability related to technical systems associated with law firm new business intake. Knowledge of InTapp preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with attorneys and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment; work independently with attention to detail; adapt to changing priorities; meet deadlines and daily requirements.
  • High level of knowledge of internet research.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow data entry conventions and enter data accurately.
  • Demonstrated ability to master new technology applications.
  • Advanced skill in operating standard office equipment, including desktop computers, printers, copiers, and telephones.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word and Excel.
Education

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience

The position requires a minimum of two (2) years of increasingly responsible, directly-related conflicts law firm experience or experience in a practice support or legal assistant capacity.

Pay Range

$76,000 - $120,000 Other US Locations

Our Firm is committed to fair and equitable compensation practice in accordance with applicable laws. Additional compensation may include a discretionary bonus. The salary for this position may vary based on location, market data, an applicant’s skills and prior experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other factors.
