Overview

McGuireWoods LLP is seeking a Conflicts Analyst to join the team in the Richmond, Dallas, or Charlotte office. The Conflicts Analyst is responsible for conducting thorough and accurate searches of companies, agencies, and individuals listed as parties in new business, add-party, matter re-open, and information-only conflicts checks, as well as lateral hire requests. This position will work closely with requesting attorneys, practice assistants, and the conflicts search team to ensure the accuracy and integrity of all information in the conflicts database.

Responsibilities
  1. Conducts thorough and accurate searches of companies, agencies, and individuals listed as parties to new business, add-party, matter re-open, and information-only conflicts checks, as well as lateral hire requests.
  2. Uses web-based research tools, company websites, and public databases to find relevant information about potential matters and parties, and perform corporate affiliate research.
  3. Communicates effectively with requesting attorneys and PAs to obtain accurate client and party information; answers questions related to client/matter intake procedures and proper use of the conflicts software; assists with firm-wide and one-on-one training initiatives.
  4. Performs preliminary reviews to identify potential conflicts and escalates appropriately.
  5. Works closely with conflicts search and review teams to manage high volume searches (bankruptcy, mass arbitrations, laterals); coordinates with requesting attorneys and PAs to create solutions for nonstandard conflicts searches.
  6. Assists with maintaining corporate intelligence (D&B) database for anchor clients and other clients; reviews client name change checklist to ensure a seamless transition in the conflicts database; reviews departing attorney report to ensure conflicts notes are transferred to other contacts appropriately.
  7. Creates, edits, consolidates, and disables ethics screens as needed.
Qualifications
  1. Requires associate’s degree (bachelor's degree preferred); two or more years’ related experience and/or training; law firm experience helpful.
  2. Proficient typing/keyboard skills.
  3. Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  4. Experience with general office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  5. Excellent administrative and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  6. Good proofreading skills.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Ability to respond appropriately and effectively to the most sensitive inquiries and complaints.
  9. Ability to work effectively under time constraints and strict deadlines.
