Job summary

UTHealth Houston in Texas is seeking a detail-oriented research compliance professional to support conflicts of interest and conflicts of commitment in a busy academic setting. The Coordinator will assist with intake, review, documentation, committee support, management plan coordination, research security assessments, and training logistics.

This role is primarily remote with on-site visits about once a quarter.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 2 years of experience in compliance, research compliance, or university administration.
  • Experience in a Conflict of Interest program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative support for the COI process, including intake, tracking, and documentation.
  • Supports COI Committees with meeting logistics, materials, minutes, and records.
  • Assists with reviewing disclosures, drafting management plans, and routing for review.
  • Maintains the electronic COI system and assists faculty with navigation.
  • Coordinates training sessions and tracks attendance; responds to policy questions.

UTHealth Houston is seeking a detail-oriented research compliance professional to support compliance activities related to conflicts of interest, conflicts of commitment, and research security. The Coordinator will assist with the disclosure and assessment process, including intake, tracking, preliminary review, documentation, committee support, management plan coordination, research security assessments, training logistics, and electronic system support. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, collaborative, and comfortable working with faculty and staff to support timely, consistent, and well-documented compliance reviews.

This role will mainly be remote, but does come on-site about once a quarter. It is full-time and eligible for all benefits.

Position Summary:

The Conflict of Interest (COI) Coordinator assists with the coordination of the COI program, which includes institutional, individual, and research-related conflicts of interest. Assists with the coordination of the process to identify, assess, manage, and monitor conflicts of interest and conflicts of commitment in compliance with regulations and institutional policies and procedures.

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Provides administrative support for the Conflict of Interest (COI) process, including assisting with disclosure intake, tracking, and documentation.
  • Under supervision, supports the COI Committees by helping with meeting logistics, preparing materials, meeting minutes, and maintaining records.
  • Assists with day-to-day operational tasks such as reviewing disclosures, drafting management plans, and routing for review and approval.
  • Maintains the electronic COI system by performing basic data entry, responding to user questions, assisting faculty and staff with navigation, and escalating issues to senior staff as needed.
  • Provides logistical assistance for training sessions, including scheduling, preparing materials, and tracking attendance.
  • Responds to inquiries from faculty and staff regarding COI policies and procedures, referring complex questions to senior staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Organizational and project management skills
  • Work may involve handling biohazardous, chemical, and radiological materials, as well as operating associated equipment. Required safety training and appropriate engineering and administrative controls, including the use of personal protective equipment, must be followed.
  • Certified Healthcare Compliance (CHC) by Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) preferred
Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree required

Minimum Experience:

2 years of experience in compliance, research compliance, research, or University administration is required. Experience in a Conflict of Interest program is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive:
  • 51.215 and Texas Government Code
  • 411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code
  • 117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position. Personnel in such positions, and similarly situated state contractors, will be routinely reviewed to determine whether things such as criminal history or continuous connections to the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the applicant, employee, or contractor from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure. A foreign adversary is a nation listed in 15 C.F.R.

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas. This is a remote position, but it does come on-site at least once a quarter.
