UTHealth Houston is seeking a Compliance Coordinator to respond to compliance reports, investigations, concerns, and inquiries on a daily basis. This role supports the university's Institutional Compliance program to ensure adherence to laws, regulations, and policies.

You will triage issues, track work, and create reports. Strong written and verbal communication, fast typing, and proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams are essential for success.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Develops, tracks, and coordinates mandatory compliance training programs.
  • Maintains records and documentation of compliance activities and findings.
  • Intakes, investigates, and reports on allegations of noncompliance.
  • Monitors changes in laws and regulations impacting the program.
  • Collaborates on risk tracking and annual risk work plans.
  • Prepares regular compliance metrics reports.
  • Assists employees with understanding the compliance program and inquiries.
  • Develops and revises compliance materials and documentation.
  • Participates in compliance-related projects and initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

UTHealth Houston is looking for a Compliance Coordinator who responds to compliance reports, investigations, concerns, and inquiries on a daily basis. This employee supports the university's Institutional Compliance program to ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and university policies. They will assist in the prevention, detection, and correction of noncompliance; also, promote and assist in monitoring compliance activities, preparing reports, and coordinating compliance-related initiatives. You will need to be able to perform triage on compliance issues, track work, and create reports. You may be tasked with reviewing or assembling records to support compliance training, working on case management, preparing for meetings, coordinating processes within the compliance hotline, or completing special projects. You must be a self-starting, detail-oriented problem solver. Written and spoken communication will be critical, and it will help to be adept at working electronically, including typing quickly and accurately and using the Microsoft software suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.). A background in editing or writing articles, data-related work, and/or education or experience with laws, regulations, and policies is preferred. We prefer candidates with a JD, healthcare, and academic compliance experience.

The salary range of this role will find most candidates landing in the $70,000s.

Position Key Accountabilities:
  • Develops, tracks, and coordinates mandatory compliance training programs to ensure that all UTHealth employees are knowledgeable of and comply with applicable federal and state laws and regulations as well as university policies.
  • Creates, organizes, and maintains up-to-date records and documentation of compliance activities, files, and findings. This includes helping to maintain compliance-related databases and files; ensuring accuracy, privacy, and data integrity.
  • Intakes, investigates, and reports on allegations of noncompliance received by the UTHealth Office of Institutional Compliance.
  • Stays informed about changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards that may impact the UTHealth Institutional Compliance program. Monitors relevant statutes, regulations, and rules that impact compliance initiatives and brings them to the attention of the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Collaborates and supports enterprise risk management and other internal, regulatory teams, and offices in their identification, tracking, and monitoring of risks. This includes the development of annual risk work plans or other related projects and activities.
  • Collaborates to track and analyze compliance metrics and prepare regular reports.
  • Provides assistance to UTHealth employees about the UTHealth Institutional Compliance program. This includes responding to compliance inquiries from internal stakeholders and assisting in addressing compliance-related issues.
  • Supports developing and delivering compliance communication materials to enhance employee awareness and understanding of compliance obligations. This includes working within Institutional Compliance webpages, developing or reviewing/revising compliance standards, procedures, and policies, and assisting with managing compliance-related documentation such as business processes, workflows, job aids, FAQs, and other process-related documentation or training materials.
  • Participates in compliance-related projects and initiatives, working closely with team members to achieve project goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:

Effective communication and analytical skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

Strength in analyzing data in Excel is a plus.

Strong administrative skills, productive, above-average typing speed, and capability with electronic systems, software¿such as Microsoft applications and data.

Keen eye for accuracy.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree Required. JD Degree Preferred.

Minimum Experience:

Three (3) years of related experience in compliance, legal, or audit; OR No experience with an Advanced degree, preferably a JD.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
