Job summary

Independence Excavating, Inc. in Charlotte, NC is seeking a QC Technician to oversee field observation, testing, sampling, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, and related materials on our heavy civil projects.

This role requires a high school diploma, potential certification, and a willingness to travel 100%. You will collaborate with contractors and project managers, prepare daily reports, and support test data analysis to ensure quality on our sites.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; related degree a plus.
• ACI Level 1 Field Technician certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Ability to organize multiple tasks and manage time effectively.
• Excellent verbal communication with internal teams.
• Willingness to travel 100%.

Responsibilities

• Performs field observation, testing, sampling, and inspection of soils and aggregates.
• Executes tests on projects of moderate complexity with minimal supervision.
• Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers.
• Reports site condition changes and testing needs to supervisors.
• Prepares detailed daily field reports of conditions and results.
• Performs calculations, data reduction, and documentation tasks.
• Maintains and organizes field equipment and testing materials.
• Assists in resolving field issues and supports project execution.
• Participates in project meetings with senior staff when requested.
• Performs other field and project support duties as assigned.

A Typical Day Looks Like

• Performs field observation, testing, sampling, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, and related materials
• Executes testing activities on projects of moderate complexity with minimal supervision
• Communicates daily with contractors, technicians, and project managers
• Reports on changing site conditions and additional testing needs to supervisors
• Prepares accurate and detailed daily field reports documenting site conditions and results
• Perform calculations, data reduction, and documentation tasks
• Maintains and organizes field equipment and testing materials
• Assist in resolving field-related issues and supports project execution

• Performs other field and project support duties as assigned

Do you have what it takes?

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required and associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field is a plus
• ACI Level 1 Field Technician Certified or willing to obtain certification
• Must have strong organizational skills to handle the variety of tasks assigned
• Must be able to effectively communicate verbally with internal teams
• Demonstrated ability to manage work on their own
• Willing to 100% travel
