Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Quality Control Manager to assist the Quality Director by reviewing project specifications, recommending mix designs to quote, developing and submitting designs, and troubleshooting field performance. This role coordinates with Sales, Operations and field technicians; conducts ASTM/AASHTO tests; maintains lab certifications; and prepares submittals and reports.

Requirements include a Degree in Concrete Management or Civil Engineering (or 5+ years’ related experience);

Qualifications

• Knowledge of concrete and aggregate testing per ASTM/AASHTO standards.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in concrete/mix design or QC management.
• Supervisory experience and ability to lead teams.

Responsibilities

• Review project specifications and recommend mix designs to the Sales Department to quote jobs.
• Participate in pre-bid preparation.
• Schedule Field Technicians daily duties.
• Maintain lab housekeeping as well as inventory control.
• Prepare project submittals.
• Coordinate work with other regional management personnel to better serve the customer.
• Attend pre-job meetings and provide input on issues impacting product quality.
• Conduct aggregate testing per ASTM/AASHTO standards.
• Assist with trial batches and related testing.
• Enter data into Stonemont for mix designs and test results.
• Prepare and analyze reports to optimize mix performance.
• Handle and resolve project problems and complaints.
• Maintain lab certifications and calibrations.
• Obtain necessary ACI, OSHA and MSHA certifications.
