Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Quality Control Field Technician to assist the Quality Manager by testing and analyzing data at project sites to optimize efficiency and product quality.

The role requires ACI Field Grade Certification within six months, frequent lifting, and the ability to work flexible hours. You will inspect batch plants, sample aggregates, perform Portland cement concrete tests, and coordinate with internal teams and customers.

Qualifications

• ACI Field Grade Certification within six (6) months in the position.
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
• Frequent lifting up to 75 pounds, occasional lifting of 100 pounds.
• Must meet OSHA 10 guidelines and follow CalPortland Safety Policies.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
• Must be able to work flexible hours with varying start and stop times.
• Overtime work, nights and some weekends will be required as needed by the company.
• May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather and be able to work in wet environments.
• Technician may be required to perform Lab Technician duties based on business need.

Responsibilities

• Work with the plant operator on plant operations and efficiency.
• Inspect Batch Plant, aggregate stockpiles, and mix designs at the assigned plant.
• Ability to adjust loads with concrete admixtures.
• Sample aggregates and perform applicable Portland cement concrete tests (in accordance with the most current ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT standards).
• Testing to include: moisture content, temperature, slump, density, air content, cylinders, etc.
• Troubleshoot and address material/quality issues (low breaks, Schmidt hammer, cracking, coring, etc.).
• Coordinate work with internal personnel, i.e.sales, operations, customer service, and dispatch.
• Prepare job incident reports
• Analyze aggregate and strength reports
• Work directly with customers
• Attend pre-job meetings
• Work with plant operators, co-workers, and drivers

Education

High school diploma/GED

ATTI and ACI certified
