Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Quality Control Technician to assist the Quality Manager in optimizing plant efficiency through testing and data analysis. You will perform concrete and aggregate testing, report results, and coordinate with plant operators and customers.

Responsibilities include testing per ACI/ASTM/DOT standards, calibrations, and data entry while ensuring safety policies and OSHA 10 compliance. Strong teamwork and physical fitness are essential.

Qualifications

• Speak, read, and write in English.
• High school diploma or GED required; certification preferred.
• ACI Field Grade Certification within six months is required or pursued.

Responsibilities

• Perform stripping, curing, capping, and compression testing in the concrete lab.
• Report cylinder strength results per ACI standards.
• Collaborate with plant operator on operations and efficiency.
• Inspect Batch Plant, aggregate stockpiles, and mix designs at each plant.
• Adjust loads with concrete admixtures as needed.
• Sample aggregates and perform tests per ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT standards.
• Test moisture, temperature, slump, density, air content, cylinders, etc.
• Troubleshoot material/quality issues (low breaks, Schmidt hammer, cracking, coring).
• Enter test results daily into a database and distribute reports.
• Calibrate testing equipment as per schedule.
• Coordinate with sales, operations, customer service, and dispatch.
• Prepare job incident reports and analyze aggregate/strength reports.
• Work directly with customers and attend pre-job meetings.
• Collaborate with plant operators, co-workers, and drivers.
