Job summary

CalPortland is seeking a Quality Control Lab Technician to perform quality control testing and reporting in the concrete and aggregates testing lab. The role supports production plants and requires adherence to ACI and DOT standards, along with strong data entry and reporting duties.

The candidate must hold a High School diploma/GED, DOT and ACI certifications, and be able to work flexible hours including overtime and nights.

Qualifications

• Obtain and maintain: ACI Concrete Strength Testing within six months
• DOT Soil and Aggregate and/or ACI Aggregate Testing Technician Level 1 within 1 year
• Job requires motions: climbing, bending, squatting, lifting, etc.
• Frequent lifting up to 75 pounds, occasional 100 pounds
• May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather and wet environments
• Must be able to work flexible hours with varying start/stop times
• Overtime work plus nights as needed
• Must meet OSHA 10 guidelines and follow CalPortland Safety Policies
• ANSI PPE provided and must be used when required
• Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
• Able to work cooperatively with others
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable
• Technician subject to random drug and alcohol screens
• May perform Field Technician duties as needed
• Preferred: Intermediate Microsoft Office and SAP skills

Responsibilities

• Perform all aspects of stripping, curing, capping, and compression testing in the concrete and concrete aggregates testing lab
• Report concrete cylinder strength test results according to ACI standards
• Process aggregate field test samples and reduce to the appropriate testing size
• Concrete testing including temperature, slump, density, air content, cylinders
• Perform gradation tests on rock and sand samples and related tests such as durability, moisture, cleanliness value, #200 wash, sand equivalency, specific gravities, absorptions
• Enter test results daily into a computer database and distribute reports
• Gather cement, fly ash, and aggregate materials for concrete trial batch tests
• Accurately weigh materials and setup equipment for trial testing
• Conduct scheduled calibrations on test equipment
• Maintain clean and safe work area and office equipment
• Troubleshoot problems and handle complaints about out-of-spec aggregates, etc.
• Analyze aggregate and strength reports and identify trends
• Work with suppliers, vendors, and internal customers as needed
• Preferred: Office/SAP proficiency
