Job summary

Merlo Construction is a growing self-perform commercial concrete and excavation contractor building commercial and industrial projects across Metro Detroit. We’re hiring concrete laborers for our foundation and wall crews who can construct trench footings, spread footings, foundations, and cast-in-place walls.

Responsibilities include digging, setting forms, placing rebar, operating skid steers and concrete buggies, and maintaining safe, efficient job sites across Southeast Michigan.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of construction labor experience.
• Valid government-issued ID.
• Reliable and punctual attendance.
• Professional and respectful attitude toward crew

• Set and pin trench footing forms, place rebar, and assist with pours.
• Strip, clean, oil, and stack formwork.
• Stock and haul materials, tools, and equipment for the crew.
• Assist with building and setting forms as needed.
• Operate skid steers, concrete buggies, and other small equipment.
• Installing wire mesh and rebar.
• Assist with concrete preparation, placement, and raking using hand tools.
• Maintain clean, organized tools, equipment, and jobsites.
• Meet daily production goals while maintaining quality and workmanship standards

Location: Brighton, MI

Merlo Construction is a growing self-perform commercial concrete and excavation contractor building commercial and industrial projects across Metro Detroit. We’re hiring concrete laborers for our foundation and wall crews who can construct trench footings, spread footings, foundations, and cast-in-place walls.

Job Locations: Projects throughout Southeast and South-Central Michigan. Daily travel to jobsites is required.

Schedule: Full-time

What You’ll Do

• Dig, clean, and prepare trench footings to line and grade
• Set and pin trench footing forms, place rebar, and assist with pours
• Strip, clean, oil, and stack formwork
• Stock and haul materials, tools, and equipment for the crew
• Assist with building and setting forms as needed
• Operate skid steers, concrete buggies, and other small equipment
• Installing wire mesh and rebar
• Assist with concrete preparation, placement, and raking using hand tools
• Maintain clean, organized tools, equipment, and jobsites
• Meet daily production goals while maintaining quality and workmanship standards

Safety

• Safety is the top priority on every Merlo job
• OSHA 10 certification and additional safety training provided

Requirements

Required

• 1+ year of construction labor experience
• Valid government-issued ID
• Reliable and punctual attendance
• Professional and respectful attitude toward every member of the crew

Preferred

• Commercial concrete experience
• Experience with trenches and footings
• Rebar and mesh experience
• Willingness to learn concrete forming and work toward a carpenter position
• Class A CDL

Equipment Experience

Preferred experience operating or working with:

• Skid steer
• Concrete buggies
• Plate compactors
• Other small construction equipment

Physical Requirements

• Able to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to climb ladders, formwork, and scaffolding
• Comfortable with extended periods of standing, bending, and physical labor
• Ability to work safely in trenches and excavations
• Willing to travel to jobsites across Southeast and South-Central Michigan

Work Environment

Mostly outdoor work in all weather, uneven ground, amid active jobsites, loud equipment, and nearby traffic. Some projects also involve indoor work.
