Job summary

Merlo Construction in Brighton, MI is hiring concrete laborers for flatwork crews to build slabs, floors, sidewalks, and parking areas across Southeast Michigan. Full-time schedule; daily travel to jobsites required.

You’ll place, spread, and finish concrete, assist with edge forms, install rebar and wire mesh, and operate skid steers and concrete buggies while meeting daily production goals. OSHA-10 training is provided.

Location: Brighton, MI

Merlo Construction is a growing self-perform commercial concrete and excavation contractor building commercial and industrial projects across Metro Detroit. We’re hiring concrete laborers for our flatwork crews, working on slabs on grade, floors, sidewalks, parking lots, and curbs.

Job Locations: Projects throughout Southeast and South-Central Michigan. Daily travel to jobsites is required.

Schedule: Full-time

What You'll Do

• Place, spread, and rake concrete
• Assist with setting edge forms and screed rails to line and grade
• Install wire mesh and rebar
• Operate skid steers, concrete buggies, and other small equipment
• Prepare subgrade and stage material ahead of concrete pours
• Support concrete finishers throughout the pour, finishing, and cleanup process
• Maintain clean, organized tools, equipment, and jobsites
• Meet daily production goals while maintaining quality and workmanship standards

Requirements

Required

• 1+ year of construction labor experience
• Valid government-issued ID
• Reliable and punctual attendance
• Professional and respectful attitude toward every member of the crew

Preferred

• Commercial concrete flatwork experience
• Experience installing rebar and wire mesh
• Willingness to learn the trade and work toward a concrete finisher position, with opportunities to develop skills in power trowel and laser screed operations
• Class A CDL

Equipment Experience

Preferred experience operating or working with:

• Skid steer
• Concrete buggies
• Vibrating screeds
• Other small construction equipment

Physical Requirements

• Able to repeatedly lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Comfortable with extended periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and walking in fresh concrete
• Willing to travel to jobsites across Southeast and South-Central Michigan

Work Environment

Mostly outdoor work in all weather, uneven ground, amid active jobsites, loud equipment, and nearby traffic. Some projects also involve indoor work.
