Description

The Opportunity

Some carpenters follow the lines. The best ones know exactly where those lines need to go.

Alpha Inc. is looking for a Journeyman Carpenter II who brings more than a tool belt to the jobsite. We're looking for a skilled craftsman who can read the plans, nail the layout, anticipate what's coming next, and help the crew deliver exceptional work.

This isn't an entry-level role. And it's not a position for someone who needs constant direction.

It's for the carpenter who can look at a complicated set of drawings and see the finished structure before the first form goes up. Someone who understands that an eighth of an inch matters, that preparation prevents expensive mistakes, and that great craftsmanship doesn't happen by accident.

You’ll tackle complex layouts, structural concrete formwork, elevations, and challenging field conditions while helping less-experienced carpenters raise their game.

You’ll work alongside Foremen and Superintendents, coordinate task-specific crews, and help turn demanding construction plans into work that’s safe, accurate, and built to last.

If you’re the carpenter others turn to when the layout gets complicated and the stakes get higher, we want to talk.

About Alpha Inc.

Born and built in Hawai?i, Alpha Inc. is a locally owned leader in heavy civil construction, concrete services, renewable energy, drilling, and infrastructure solutions.

We’re not just building structures. We’re building the infrastructure that keeps Hawai?i moving and serves our island communities for generations.

And we believe the people behind the work matter just as much as the work itself.

Our three core values aren’t just words on a wall. They’re how we show up, work together, and get things done.

Leading with Heart – We put people first, treat others with respect, and look out for one another. Real leadership starts with caring.

Strength in Unity – One crew. One mission. We communicate, collaborate, and win together.

Alpha Mentality – We bring grit, accountability, craftsmanship, and a relentless commitment to doing things right.

At Alpha, your reputation isn’t built by what you say you can do.

It’s built by what you deliver.

What You’ll Do

As a Journeyman Carpenter II, you’ll be a trusted technical contributor on the jobsite — executing advanced carpentry work, solving problems before they become setbacks, and helping your crew perform at a higher level.

Own the Layout. Get It Right the First Time.

Execute complex layouts involving radius work, angled structures, multi-elevation foundations, and structural concrete components.

Interpret construction plans, specifications, shop drawings, and rebar details with accuracy and confidence.

Establish and verify elevations, alignment, squareness, and structural dimensions using traditional methods, lasers, and digital measuring equipment.

Identify embeds, anchor bolts, sleeves, hardware, and critical installation details before concrete placement.

Catch discrepancies early, communicate them clearly, and help prevent costly rework.

Bring Serious Craftsmanship to the Jobsite.

Perform advanced concrete formwork and structural carpentry with minimal supervision.

Maintain high standards for accuracy, finish quality, structural integrity, and installation practices.

Understand construction sequencing and how today’s work affects tomorrow’s production.

Use tools, equipment, and materials safely, efficiently, and with professional care.

Take pride in delivering work that meets project specifications and Alpha’s quality expectations.

Lead Through Action, Not Just a Title.

Help coordinate task‑specific crews to execute daily assignments safely and productively.

Mentor Journeyman Carpenter I team members and apprentices through hands‑on coaching and technical guidance.

Set the pace through preparation, reliability, craftsmanship, and personal accountability.

Work closely with Foremen and Superintendents to identify challenges and keep work moving.

Share knowledge, strengthen teamwork, and help develop the next generation of skilled carpenters.

Think Ahead. Keep Production Moving.

Anticipate material, equipment, and labor needs before they become bottlenecks.

Support jobsite planning, staging, and efficient work sequencing.

Coordinate with other trades and subcontractors to avoid conflicts and unnecessary delays.

Communicate field issues early and bring practical solutions to the conversation.

Maintain organized work areas and contribute to consistent crew productivity.

Make Safety Non-Negotiable.

Follow and reinforce Alpha’s safety policies and applicable jobsite requirements.

Recognize hazards, speak up, and take appropriate action when something isn’t right.

Model proper tool use, equipment handling, and safe work practices.

Help create a jobsite where people look out for one another and everyone has the opportunity to go home safely.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Carpenter Foreman or Superintendent.

What You Bring

We’re not looking for someone who simply has years on the job. We’re looking for someone who has something to show for them.

Proven Field Experience

Successful performance as a Journeyman Carpenter I or an equivalent combination of education and hands‑on construction experience.

Demonstrated expertise in advanced carpentry layout, elevations, concrete formwork, and structural construction.

Strong ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and installation details.

Experience executing complex carpentry assignments independently with minimal supervision.

Working knowledge of embeds, anchor bolts, hardware installation, and structural concrete sequencing.

Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, lasers, layout instruments, and measuring equipment.

Experience guiding small crews, mentoring developing carpenters, or coordinating task‑specific field activities.

The Skills That Separate You

Precision: You know that small errors can create big problems, and you take pride in getting the details right.

Field Intelligence: You don’t just read the plans. You understand the sequence, recognize potential conflicts, and think several steps ahead.

Problem‑Solving: When field conditions change, you assess the situation, communicate, and help find a practical path forward.

Accountability: You own your work, follow through on commitments, and don’t make excuses when challenges arise.

Communication: You can work effectively with apprentices, fellow tradespeople, Foremen, Superintendents, and project teams.

Leadership Potential: You understand that respect is earned through consistency, competence, humility, and the willingness to help others succeed.

Physical & Jobsite Requirements

This is an active, hands‑on construction role requiring the ability to perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:

Working outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions.

Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and performing repetitive construction activities.

Lifting, carrying, positioning, and handling construction materials, tools, and equipment.

Working around active construction operations while following required safety procedures.

Using appropriate personal protective equipment and complying with jobsite safety requirements.

What Success Looks Like

At Alpha, great performance isn’t measured by how busy you look. It’s measured by the quality of your work, your reliability, and the impact you have on the crew.

The strongest Journeyman Carpenter II team members consistently demonstrate:

First-Time Accuracy: Complex layouts, elevations, and formwork are completed correctly, with minimal avoidable rework.

Dependable Execution: Assigned work is completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project expectations.

Proactive Problem‑Solving: Drawing conflicts, missing embeds, and field challenges are identified before they disrupt production.

Crew Impact: Less‑experienced carpenters become more capable, confident, and productive through your guidance.

Jobsite Readiness: Materials, tools, and work areas are organized to support efficient execution.

Safety Ownership: Safe work practices are demonstrated consistently, and hazards are addressed rather than ignored.

You don’t need a Foreman’s title to demonstrate leadership. You need the skills, the mindset, and the willingness to set the example.
