The Opportunity

Some people close the books. Others raise the bar on how the entire business runs.

Alpha Inc. is looking for a Controller for our Special Projects who brings more than accounting expertise to the table. We want a sharp financial mind, a relentless problem-solver, and a hands-on leader who can bring clarity to complexity, discipline to financial operations, and confidence to every number that matters.

This isn't a role for someone who simply checks boxes, maintains the status quo, or waits to be told what needs fixing.

We're looking for someone who sees around corners, challenges inefficient processes, and takes personal ownership of financial accuracy, internal controls, and operational excellence.

You'll oversee accounting operations and financial reporting across multiple entities, strengthen the systems that keep our businesses running, and partner with the CFO and leadership teams to ensure our financial foundation is as strong as the work we deliver.

If you thrive on solving complex financial challenges, building smarter systems, and holding yourself to a higher standard, keep reading.

About Alpha Inc.

Founded and grown in Hawai?i, Alpha Inc. is a locally owned leader in heavy civil construction, renewable energy, concrete services, drilling, and infrastructure solutions.

We don't just build projects. We build the infrastructure, relationships, and opportunities that help move Hawai?i forward.

And behind every great operation is a financial team that knows how to protect what we've built while preparing us for what's next.

Our culture is grounded in three core values:

Lead with Heart – Humility, empathy, and respect in every interaction. We believe strong leadership starts with people.

Strength in Unity – One crew, many talents; we win together. Collaboration isn't optional. It's how we succeed.

Alpha Mentality – Grit, accountability, and a relentless drive to excel. We own the outcome, challenge the ordinary, and never settle for good enough.

As the Controller for our Special Projects, you'll bring these values to life through financial leadership, collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to doing things right.

What You Will Do

You’ll be a driving force behind financial accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement across a complex, multi-entity environment.

Own the Numbers. Protect the Integrity.

  • Lead the preparation, review, and delivery of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements across multiple entities.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring transactions, reconciliations, and financial reporting are accurate, complete, and timely.
  • Oversee core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, consolidations, and intercompany transactions.
  • Identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions before small issues become big problems.

Build Financial Controls That Mean Business.

  • Establish, strengthen, and maintain internal controls that safeguard company assets and reinforce financial accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax requirements, regulatory obligations, and company policies.
  • Lead financial audit coordination, from preparing documentation and managing requests to resolving findings and implementing improvements.
  • Develop consistent accounting policies, procedures, and reporting practices that support transparency and scalability across entities.

Make the Close Faster. Smarter. Better.

  • Own and continuously improve month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Eliminate unnecessary complexity, streamline workflows, and improve reporting accuracy without sacrificing financial discipline.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage accounting technology, ERP systems, and financial reporting tools.
  • Support financial systems implementation, optimization, and ongoing improvements that make the accounting function more effective.

Turn Financial Complexity Into Clarity.

  • Analyze financial information with a critical eye, identifying risks, inconsistencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with the CFO and cross-functional leaders to address financial challenges and support organizational priorities.
  • Bring sound judgment, strong analytical thinking, and practical solutions to complex accounting issues.
  • Provide reliable financial information that leadership can trust.

Lead People. Raise Standards. Build Accountability.

  • Mentor and develop accounting team members, strengthening technical capabilities and professional growth.
  • Establish clear expectations, promote ownership, and foster a culture where accuracy and accountability are nonnegotiable.
  • Collaborate across departments and entities to break down silos and strengthen financial processes.
  • Lead with integrity, discretion, and professionalism, especially when handling sensitive financial and organizational information.

Own the Special Projects That Move Us Forward.

  • Step into complex financial initiatives that require more than a textbook answer.
  • Support accounting system improvements, process standardization, reporting enhancements, and cross-entity financial initiatives.
  • Adapt quickly as business priorities evolve, bringing structure, clarity, and disciplined execution to new challenges.
  • Take on additional responsibilities aligned with the CFO's direction and organizational needs.

What You Bring

We're not looking for someone who just knows accounting. We're looking for someone who knows how to lead it.

You bring the technical depth to get the numbers right, the discipline to build repeatable processes, and the confidence to challenge what's not working.

The Experience & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility in financial reporting, accounting operations, and financial controls.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing financial reporting, consolidations, audits, and internal control processes.
  • Experience leading accounting functions in a family office, privately held company, private equity environment, or multi-entity organization.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and hands‑on experience with ERP and accounting systems.
  • Strong command of accounting principles, financial reporting requirements, compliance practices, and internal controls.
  • CPA designation strongly preferred.
  • MBA or other advanced financial certification is a plus.
  • Experience implementing accounting systems and driving sustainable process improvements is highly valued.

The Skills & Mindset That Set You Apart

You see the details without losing sight of the bigger picture.

  • Financial Precision: You take pride in accurate reporting, clean reconciliations, and financial information that stands up to scrutiny.
  • Ownership Mentality: You don't pass problems along. You investigate, solve, and follow through.
  • Systems Thinking: You recognize that strong accounting is about more than transactions. It's about building processes that work consistently.
  • Analytical Firepower: You can navigate complex financial information, spot risks, and turn findings into practical action.
  • Leadership Without Ego: You coach, develop, and hold people accountable while treating them with respect.
  • Operational Agility: You can juggle competing priorities, manage deadlines, and stay composed when the pressure is on.
  • Unshakable Integrity: You understand the importance of confidentiality, discretion, and sound financial judgment.
  • Continuous Improvement: You don't settle for "that's how we've always done it." You look for ways to make it better.

What Success Looks Like

We're big believers in outcomes, not just activity.

In this role, success means:

  • Financial Reporting You Can Trust: Accurate, timely, and consistent reporting across multiple entities.
  • A Disciplined Close Process: Month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closes that are organized, reliable, and continually improving.
  • Stronger Internal Controls: Clear procedures, effective safeguards, and fewer preventable errors.
  • Smarter Systems & Processes: Measurable improvements in accounting efficiency, consistency, and reporting capabilities.
  • Audit Readiness: Organized records, responsive audit coordination, and proactive resolution of issues.
  • A Stronger Accounting Team: Team members who are supported, accountable, and continuously developing.
  • A Trusted Partnership with Leadership: The CFO and organizational leaders have confidence in the financial information, controls, and accounting processes supporting the business.

The expectation isn't perfection on day one. It's the ability to take ownership, establish priorities, deliver results, and keep raising the standard.

Alpha Mentality – You embrace challenges, take accountability, pursue excellence, and have the grit to make difficult things better.
