Job summary

The City of Colorado Springs is seeking a Senior Equipment Operator in the Concrete division to finish and place concrete, set forms, and ensure grade and ADA compliance. You will perform site preparation, operate heavy equipment, and support snow removal, maintenance, and earthwork as part of a multi-tasking public works team.

This role requires knowledge of traffic control, safety practices, and the ability to lead staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Five years of full-time, professional related experience
• Valid Colorado driver's license (unrestricted)
• Colorado Class B CDL on hire
• Colorado Class A CDL within 12 months of hire

Responsibilities

About the Job

The City of Colorado Springs is looking for a Concrete Finisher for their Public Works department. In this position, you will construct and maintain concrete infrastructure and perform a wide range of construction, maintenance, and equipment-operation duties. These duties include concrete work, site preparation, snow removal, material transport, and general infrastructure upkeep.

Work Schedule

6:30AM - 5:00PM; either Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday depending on crew assignment after hire.

As a Senior Equipment Operator for the Concrete division, you will:

• Construct and place concrete forms ensuring proper grade, size, shape, and compliance with ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) and engineering specifications
• Install expansion materials, reinforcement bars, keyways, dowels, etc.
• Assembles and sets formwork that holds concrete to required pitch and depth and aligns forms appropriately
• Place, screen, and level concrete ensuring proper grade control and compliance with ADA and standard specifications
• Finish concrete surfaces utilizing floats, trowels, power floats, and edging and jointing tools
• Conduct site preparation for concrete work, including tear-out/demolition and preparing earthwork to ensure grade control, elevation, surveys, utilities locates, etc., are complete and accurate
• Safely operate a single/tandem axle dump truck with plow and sander during snow removal operations and maintenance equipment such as mowing machines, front-end loaders, and air hammers
• Use, clean, service, transport and make minor adjustments and repairs to equipment and tools
• Perform manual labor such as cleaning culverts, mowing, patching potholes, removing debris, and shoveling asphalt and snow
• Schedule and coordinate the work of assigned staff; serve in a lead worker capacity
• Other duties as assigned

Knowledge of

• Operation and maintenance of the division's full range of heavy power-driven equipment
• Practices, methods, and materials used in general construction and maintenance work

• Five years of full-time, professional experience in related field
• Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
• Possess upon hire a Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
• Possess or willing to obtain a Colorado Class A CDL within (12) months of hire, not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
