Job summary

Andover Public Schools seeks an Instrumental Concert Band teacher to lead and support our band program. You will teach concert band courses at Andover High School and assist the three middle schools, coordinating curriculum and concerts with fellow music teachers.

You will conduct ensembles for performances and may teach additional music classes as needed, with daily travel between buildings. A Massachusetts music certification and experience with band programs are required.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts certification in Music (General, Instrumental or Choral) for K-12
• Training or coursework in instrumental music education
• Prior middle/high school teaching experience preferred
• Proficiency on all concert band instruments; strong on at least one wind/brass instrument

Responsibilities

• Instruct/rehearse concert band at Andover High School and support three middle schools
• Coordinate curriculum, events and concerts with other music teachers
• Conduct ensembles for performances during and outside school hours
• Instruct additional music classes as needed
• Position requires transportation between buildings during the day

Under the direction of the Fine Arts Coordinator and the principal, the Instrumental Concert Band teacher will teach our concert band courses, will coordinate music program with classroom programs when appropriate, and will support the Middle School bands at each Middle School. The music teacher will be responsible for all appropriate concerts and productions.

Responsibilities

• Instruct/rehearse concert band at Andover High School and support all Andover's three middle schools.
• Work with other music teachers to coordinate curriculum, events and concerts.
• Conduct ensembles for performances, in and out of the school day, throughout the school year.
• Instruct additional music classes as needed
• Position requires transportation between buildings during the school day.
• All other required duties as requested.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts certification, Music (General, Instrumental, Choral) K-12.
• Training and/ or academic coursework in instrumental music education.
• Previous high and middle school teaching preferred.
• Functional proficiency on all concert band instruments
• Highly proficient on at least one wind or brass instrument
• Prior experience leading marching band, pep band, jazz band, or other ensembles (strongly preferred)
• Positive, energetic, and flexible approach to a process-based and inclusive style of instruction/ rehearsal.
• Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
