Job summary

Young World Physical Education in Chicopee, MA is seeking a Computer Technician to support school computer systems, install software, and help maintain devices including laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads.

The role performs imaging and deploying desktops and mobile devices, handles hardware repairs, and provides end-user support by phone, email, and on-site visits, under the supervision of the Assistant Chief Information Officer.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree and three years of experience or equivalent.
  • Proficient with laptops, desktops, mobile devices, projection systems, and interactive boards.
  • Strong understanding of IT functions from ops to Windows/Chrome OS environments.
  • Familiar with laptop/desktop hardware.
  • Knowledge of Google for Education productivity suite.

Responsibilities

  • Imaging and deploying desktops, laptops, Chromebooks and iPads; refresh and maintenance of equipment.
  • Repairing or replacing faulty hardware with OS/software configuration as needed.
  • Configure, maintain, and lifecycle manage multimedia projection and interactive systems.
  • Handle incoming tickets and provide end-user support via telephone, online, and email.
  • Perform remote and on-site fixes, install software, and configure workstations and apps.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant CIO.

TITLE: COMPUTER TECHNICIAN


TYPE: NON-UNION, CYCLE I


SALARY: PER THE TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR NON-UNION PERSONNEL, CYCLE I


SCHEDULE: MONDAY - FRIDAY, EIGHT (8) HOURS PER DAY


REPORTS TO: ASSISTANT CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER


OBJECTIVE:


Performs skilled technical work in the installation, modification, maintenance and repair of computer equipment and other types of technology; performs related duties such as installation of computer software programs and giving instructions on computer use and maintenance of equipment.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Responsible for imaging and deploying desktops, laptops, Chromebooks and iPads. Is responsible for refresh and maintenance of equipment.

  • Repairs existing computer equipment by either repairing or replacing faulty components along with necessary OS configuration and software.

  • Responsible for the configuration, maintenance, routine repair, inventory and lifecycle of the multimedia and interactive projection systems.

  • Manages the processing of incoming tickets and provides support via telephone, online, and e-mail to ensure courteous, timely, and effective resolution of end user issues.

  • Performs remote / hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring workstations and desktop applications.

  • Any duties as assigned by the Assistant CIO.


REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Associates degree and three (3) years of experience, or equivalent experience.

  • Proficient in the use laptops, desktops, mobile devices, projection systems and interactive boards in an enterprise environment.

  • Strong understanding of IT functions, ranging from operations to Windows based operating systems, Chromebook OS(es) and mobile device OS(es).

  • Strong familiarity with laptop and desktop hardware.

  • Strong working knowledge of Google for Education productivity suite.


ADA & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must be able to stand, crouch and bend over for a long period of time at intervals throughout the day.

  • Data Conception: Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural or composite characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people or things.

  • Interpersonal Communication: Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments or directions to subordinates or assistants.

  • Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, newsletters, schedules, manuals, invoices, requisitions, menus, recipes, journals, etc. Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, reports, forms, evaluations, procedures, charts, surveys, articles, bid specifications, brochures, news releases, handbooks, budgets, etc., using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style. Requires the ability to speak before groups of people with poise, voice control and confidence.

  • Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

  • Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, accounting and marketing terminology.

  • Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages; and to apply the principles of algebra and geometry.

  • Form/Spatial Aptitude: Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

  • Motor Coordination: Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.

  • Manual Dexterity: Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as office equipment and hand tools. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.

  • Interpersonal: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

  • Physical Communication: Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ear.) Must be able to communicate via telephone.
