Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Drafting Intern to revise drawings and prepare basic component drawings from explicit instructions or detailed sketches. You will plot drawings, learn drafting standards, and gain exposure to various market segments and locations, with responsibilities expanding as you grow.

The internship emphasizes self-motivation, leadership, and effective communication while you support project work under supervision.

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of certificate, Associate's or Bachelor's degree in CAD, Engineering Technology, or related degree.
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education or technical program related to the department.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Active campus or community involvement and strong communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with basic MS Office knowledge.
  • Demonstrated leadership and self-motivation to grow in the field.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Revise existing drawings and prepare drawings of basic components from instructions.
  • Plot drawings and learn company and client drafting standards and procedures.
  • Support multiple market segments and locations as assigned.

Job description

Description

Our Drafting Interns are responsible for revising existing drawings and preparingdrawings of basic components from explicit verbal or written instructions or detailed sketches. This position successfully plots drawings; learns and follows company and client drafting standards and procedures; learns the practices of a selected discipline. Other duties as assigned.

Opportunities as a Drafting Intern exist in multiple market segments and locations. Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments and locations. Please see below for information on each market:

Transmission & Distribution

The Transmission & Distribution group is responsible for the planning and design of electrical transmission projects in power delivery, including overhead transmission, underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication & network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, grid modernization and more.

Qualifications
  • Pursuit of certificate, Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Computer-Aided Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related degree.
  • Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
Compensation

$18.00-27.00 Hourly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The final agreed upon compensation is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
