Job summary

The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia is seeking a CT Tech for weekend night shifts (Fri-Sun, 7p-7a) to support UVA Health. You will prepare patients, operate CT equipment, and obtain diagnostic scans while ensuring patient safety and comfort in a high-volume radiology department.

Required ARRT CT certification or eligibility, and 1 year CT experience preferred. A sign-on bonus is available and on-call responsibilities may apply.

Qualifications

• Requires ARRT CT certification or eligible (CT-RT).
• 1 year CT experience preferred.
• Graduates of ARRT-approved radiography programs encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for CT procedures and operate CT equipment to obtain diagnostic scans.
• Explain procedures and post-procedure instructions to patients to reduce anxiety.
• Maintain patient safety, sterile technique, and adherence to universal precautions.
• Assist physicians with diagnostic/therapeutic CT procedures as required.
• Perform routine quality control checks on CT equipment.

JOB SUMMARY

The CT technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the CT equipment in order to obtain diagnostic scans.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High School Diploma or GED required. 2 Year/Associate's Degree preferred. Graduate of ARRT- approved Radiography Program.

Experience

1 year of experience in CT preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure

Certified and registered by ARRT in CT - RT(R)(CT) within 12 months of hire required.

Analytical ability, basic computer skills, good communication skills, ability to adapt to procedures based on age of patient, ability to interpret information to identify each patient's requirements for care relative to his/her age specific needs. Prepares patient for procedures. Operates CT equipment.

  • Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.
  • Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings.
• Technical Competency: Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.
  • Maintains sterile equipment and fields.
  • Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.
  • Performs any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment.
  • Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.
  • Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary.

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

Physical Demand Code:

Medium to Heavy Physical Demand: The job requires constant standing, frequently walking, and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. The base compensation range for this role is $40.75 - $50.00 hourly.

Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. Please note that the pay range does not include any applicable incentive compensation programs such as shift differentials, clinical ladders, and other incentives that may be available for those in eligible positions.
