Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is seeking a Computational Soft Matter Researcher to model macromolecules and analyze their behavior across scales, leveraging MD, coarse-graining, enhanced sampling, statistics, and machine learning. You will collaborate with analysts, scientists, and engineers on DoD and government projects.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant field, have 3+ years of physics-based simulations experience, and be able to communicate effectively

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant engineering or science field with complex-question experience.
  • 3+ years performing physics-based simulations of macromolecules.
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication with experimental colleagues.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally and work in restricted facilities.
  • Eligible for U.S. citizenship and security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop models of macromolecules to relate structure and function across scales.
  • Analyze macromolecular properties including structural and thermodynamic aspects.
  • Use methods like molecular dynamics, coarse-graining, enhanced sampling, and ML.
  • Collaborate with analysts, scientists, and engineers daily.
  • Propose future projects and communicate results through reports and presentations.
  • Craft results for government partners and internal teams.
