Job summary

Exxon Mobil seeks a highly skilled Computational Scientist to develop and analyze physics-based and data-driven models for the oil and gas industry. You will collaborate across disciplines and partners to translate complex simulations into actionable insights.

The role emphasizes advanced modeling, ML applications, and solving optimization problems with uncertainty in a Linux/HPC environment. Strong communication across teams is essential.

Qualifications

  • PhD from a recognized university in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Geoscience, Computational Science, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in developing, applying, and analyzing physics-based models and developing related algorithms.
  • Strong background in mathematical modeling, scientific computing, and numerical analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with deep learning and architectures and their industrial application.
  • Experience with surrogate modeling to reduce computational cost while maintaining accuracy.
  • Experience formulating and solving convex and PDE constrained optimization problems.
  • Strong programming in Python or C++/C# and ML frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn.

Responsibilities

  • Work across global, cross-disciplinary teams and third parties to accelerate computational science tech development.
  • Frame challenges from business needs and develop physics+data solutions balancing accuracy and runtime; manage uncertainty.
